If you are reading this, you are already part of a small but growing movement in Wisconsin: organizing for our state’s craft beverage and farming industry. Many states have strong guilds and business and or trade associations, lobbying groups and consumer groups to advocate for their home brewing and growing teams. Washington state even has a commission (like Wisconsin’s Dairy Commission). While Wisconsin remains a leader in craft brewing, we are falling behind the organizing train.
The brewers guild does important work. That needs to continue. But with giant brewers’ entrenched at the state capitol–having been there for decades–we need a stronger voice. And a unifying voice. We want to be the voice that brings together not only brewers and consumers, but farmers and other makers who depend on local, sustainable agriculture.
So how can you help? You join. At whatever level you can, you join. Yes, you get a t-shirt and membership card, but more importantly you get to come to the meetings, network, brainstorm and vote. You become part of the organizing movement that will protect and advocate for a vital part of Wisconsin’s future and heritage.
